Boone Crew Rows For the Cure

The Boone Crew Varsity Women rowers donned pink t-shirts and braved the chilly Tennessee River to compete in the Row For The Cure race at the 31st annual Head of the Hooch Regatta, November 5th, in Chattanooga. Row for the Cure is the rowing community's crusade against breast cancer, raising over $1.1 million to benefit local affiliates of Komen for the Cure. The Women Braves had an impressive finish for a great cause, beating 10 other Florida and Orlando Teams

That afternoon, the Boone Crew drum could be heard over the cheering crowd as our Varsity Men competed in the Men's 2x and the Men's Varsity 4+ races on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga. They also had great results, beating boats from 15 teams including Edgewater, Lake Brantley, South Orlando Rowing and other clubs from around the country. The Head of the Hooch is the second largest regatta in the country, with over 1,600 crews participating in 5,000 meter races.

The Boone High School Rowers began their Fall racing season at the Halloween Regatta in Tampa on October 29. Congratulations to the Novice Men's 4, Novice Women's 4 and Varsity Men's Double for a great showing at their first regatta of their 27th year. Our Jr. Braves Middle School rowers also competed at the Halloween Regatta in an exhibition race against other middle school teams from around the state.

The team will be traveling to Fellsmere, FL for the Florida Straits Regatta onDecember 3.

Row Hard, Row Fast, Row BOONE!

Congratulations to our 2011-2012 Boone Crew Captains, Michael Merwin and Madi Lennon!

Boone High School Crew, sponsored by Braves Rowing, Inc. (BRI), is open to all Boone High School students and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this fall. BRI also sponsors the Jr. Braves middle school rowing team, open to any student in 6th – 8th grade. For information about joining either the Boone High School team or the middle school team, please contact BooneCrew@ymail.com. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to help the team return to rowing, please contact Stephanie Spinelli at stephspin@cfl.rr.com.

Braves Rowing Inc. (BRI) is completely funded by the generous support from parents, alumni, and friends of Boone Crew as well as from student athlete-led fundraisers like the erg-a-thon and car washes.  Rowers pay annual dues, but this does not cover nearly all of the expenses for the year such as maintenance of boats and launches, new equipment, traveling, gear, etc.  Your donation and support will allow the team to stay competitive and keep these kids on the water. If you would like to make a donation please contact Stephanie Spinelli at stephspin@cfl.rr.com
